To make the right choice when buying a TV for your home, office or establishment, we will give you some tips that would be useful to anyone who is still not sure what kind of TV they want to buy.
HOW TO CHOOSE A TV?
Before you start choosing a TV, you need to answer some basic questions, namely:
1. What tasks do you assign to the TV - analog or digital viewing, connection to the computer, game console, TV antenna, etc.?
- TV broadcast: If this is the main task, then you should pay attention to plasma, provided that it suits the viewing conditions in the specific room, but many LCD TVs also cope quite well with broadcast.
- Video: If you are going to stream content from different sources in different formats (DVD, Rip, etc.) just use your own eyes when choosing. Decide which picture you think is better - the LCD or the plasma picture.
- Computer: If you are going to connect a computer only for watching movies, then both plasma and LCD will be approximately equally good. If you are going to use the TV as a full-fledged monitor, including surfing the Internet, working with documents, graphic applications - then your choice is undoubtedly LCD.
- Game console: Planning to connect a game console? You won't notice much of a difference in the picture between the different technologies.
2. Viewing conditions - Is the room bright and sunny, will the TV be in direct view of a window, are you watching TV in the evening under bright artificial lighting?
If you answer “yes” to at least one of the questions, then it is better to look at LCD technology, since plasma, for all its merits, is quite demanding in terms of conditions. The screen of an LCD TV can emit almost twice as much light as that of a plasma TV. In a well-lit environment, the increased brightness of the LCD screen helps maintain image detail by improving its visible contrast.
3. Plasma, LCD or OLED?
- Plasma: Plasma TVs are at their best in the evening at home under controlled lighting. For brightly lit rooms and direct sunlight, LCD is recommended. Buy a plasma if you want to enjoy rich, warm colors and deep blacks, watch TV from different angles, don't play video games, your room is not exposed to direct sunlight, or you can easily control the brightness.
- LCD: Buy an LCD TV if you watch TV for a long time, the room is brightly lit, you are looking for an energy-saving TV, or you prefer to use the TV as a monitor.
- OLED: OLED displays can provide high contrast, fast response time, wide color gamut, and wide viewing angles, while operating in a wide temperature range with low power consumption. OLED technology enables the production of thin devices that can be flexible and transparent. In OLED, the pixels of the matrix emit their own colored light, unlike LCD LED backlights. The system has advantages - some of them and perhaps the most important are the curved display, which allows a larger field of view, and the absolute pure black with perfect contrast of the other colors. The difference is striking compared to LCD. The response time of the OLED panel is excellent. Turning on or off each pixel on the screen is very fast. So you can enjoy scenes with fast and sharp movements on the display.
4. What size do you need?
There is a lot said and written on this subject. The truth is that the eyes rest when they calmly distinguish all the details on a large screen and overstrain, trying to catch them on a small screen from a decent distance. The conclusion – choose a TV with a large screen, but in accordance with the size of the room in which you will place it and the distance from which you will watch.
5. What resolution are you looking for?
- HD Ready: 1366x768 pixels - will be sufficient and even in some cases preferred for watching terrestrial and digital television, watching DVDs and Rips. TVs with this resolution can receive, process and display a 1080p signal, with frequencies of 24, 50 and 60 Hz.
- Full HD: 1920-1080 pixels - suitable resolution for connecting a TV as a full-fledged monitor, a game console, in particular PS3, PS4, Blu Ray, watching movies in HD1080p from other sources.
- 4K ULTRA HD: This is a new era in screen resolutions for TVs, monitors and mobile device displays. 4K ULTRA HD is expressed in 3840 x 2160 pixels, which is four times more than Full HD resolution. If you choose a TV with 4K ULTRA HD resolution, the screen size should be at least 50" to enjoy all the benefits and high detail of the picture.
6. What connectivity options do you want the TV to have?
- TV Tuner – it is responsible for the quality of reception and processing of the incoming signal from the antenna or cable operator. To play a digital signal, the TV must have a digital tuner: DVB-T/T2, DVB-C/C2, DVB-S, DVB-S2, DVB-H, DVB-SH.
- USB – With the USB ports, you will be able to connect a portable memory to the TV, from which you will be able to play music, videos and images. With the USB ports, you will also be able to connect computer mice, keyboards, joysticks and more.
- HDMI – With HDMI ports, you will be able to connect other devices to the TV, such as laptops, cameras, Blu Ray, DVD players, and many others. The reproduced image will be of high resolution and frequency.
- SCART - Can transmit standard definition audio and video. The picture quality is worse than HDMI, DVI, and component video.
- S-Video - Most commonly used for carrying standard definition video. It does not carry audio over the same cable.
- Composite video - Composite video is an analog video (without audio) format. This is the connection you should use if you don't have another available, due to quality reasons.
