TYPES OF KITCHEN HOODS – BUILT-IN AND FREESTANDING HOODS

While the smell of a freshly cooked meal can sometimes be pleasant, in most cases, clean air is preferable. That's where a kitchen hood, also called an extractor fan, comes in. This appliance not only purifies the air, but also protects objects from the yellow deposits left by steam, smoke, and oily fumes.
When purchasing a kitchen hood, it is necessary to pay attention to its power, noise characteristics, dimensions, presence of filters, and materials from which it is made.
Motor power is the most important parameter in kitchen hoods. It is measured in watts, and suction capacity is measured in cubic meters per hour.
The model with what power to choose depends on the size of the kitchen and whether it is open to other rooms. A reasonable ratio between price and power is the choice of an extractor hood with a power that allows a flow rate of 450 cubic meters per hour for rapid air exchange. However, if the kitchen is part of the living room, it is better to opt for a more powerful model with a higher purification capacity.
The effective operation of the hood also depends on the distance it is located from the cooktop, which is set at 65-85 cm. If for some reason the hood is above 85 cm, you need a more powerful model.
The hood can be with air recirculation through filters (the same air passes through them and returns purified), the second type takes the air into a chimney, and there are also combined ones - purifying in both ways. The first model can be placed in a room without a chimney, but for the second two types we need a vent for gases and vapors.
It is important, when buying a hood, to choose one whose filters are easy to clean, or if they are replaced, as easily and less frequently as possible.
The pragmatic functions of the extractor hood are undoubtedly the most important, but the aesthetic one should not be neglected. Its design should match the style of the kitchen. For example, a metal and glass extractor hood goes well with a modern kitchen. The most beautiful are the freestanding ones, but they are much more expensive than those built into a cabinet.
When the stove is not near the chimney, we can hide the exhaust pipe in a suspended ceiling or exhaust the air through a rectangular duct installed above the top row of cabinets.
Make the right choice now!
