Ironing is a primary household chore that is done for the sake of hygiene and good appearance. That is why an iron is a must-have for every housewife. Among other things, a person's good appearance gives him additional self-esteem and fills him with confidence in every respect.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN CHOOSING A SUITABLE IRON FOR IRONING? IRONING PLATES, POWER, ANTI-SCALE SYSTEMS AND PROTECTIVE FUNCTIONS OF IRONS.
The most important element in an iron is the soleplate with the ironing surface. The development of various combinations of materials continues. For the moment, cermets are the norm. Of course, the ironing surface is not everything. All are produced with the absolutely necessary steam generator.
Steam moistens fabrics and makes ironing easier. Modern irons have steam regulators with a capacity of 15-30 g/min. The steam reaches the ironed fabric through a system of holes on the soleplate. When ironing coarser fabrics, the “steam boost” function is useful with a button that injects up to 85 g/min. This way, the steam boost penetrates under high pressure even into the densest and most difficult-to-iron areas.
Vertical steam is a relatively new extra. When the ironing surface is in a vertical position, the iron powerfully releases a cloud of steam at the touch of a button. Coats, jackets, sweaters, and pleated blouses can be ironed on a hanger quickly and efficiently, without an ironing board. The steam penetrates even the most inaccessible places.
Vertical steam can be used to iron blinds and curtains on the spot. From a distance of 20-30cm, refresh furniture upholstery, then wipe with a clean rag.
Unfortunately, the water evaporated in the iron forms salt deposits in the form of scale. It clogs the nozzles, impairs the steam supply and even pieces of scale fall on the ironed fabrics. That is why modern irons have a variety of systems for protection against scale – Anti-Calc. In some, the deposits are collected in a special place and periodically cleaned, in others this is done through a chemical reaction. There are also self-cleaning irons. By pressing a separate button, the nozzles are blown out with a lot of steam.
Modern irons do not need to be filled with distilled water. This water does not make steam well. Experts recommend using a 1:1 mixture of distilled and tap water at best.
Today's models have an anti-drip system that prevents water from dripping. When the tank is full, the iron works at a low temperature and no steam is produced. When ironing silk, for example, every accidental drop leaves stains. The anti-drip system is simple, with a bimetallic plate that bends below 100 degrees and closes the water flow. This system is sometimes supplemented with a design for generating steam at a low temperature on the soleplate. It's just that the steam-generating chamber is heated separately more (above 100 degrees) unlike the soleplate, which should not burn delicate fabrics.
Irons vary in power. Higher power does not mean that the iron will iron at a higher temperature than necessary. The advantage of more powerful irons is faster heating, more efficient steam generation. In the event of a steam boost, the operating temperature is restored faster. When choosing a home iron, 2000W is usually enough. For tourist irons, even less.
It is not uncommon for a person to forget to turn off the iron, but this is no longer a problem. Self-off irons do it automatically. The self-off system works depending on the position of the iron. When it is left stationary in a horizontal position on the plate, it turns off itself after 30 seconds, so as not to burn the fabric underneath. If we pick up the iron again and start ironing - it turns on again. When the iron is left lying on its side (it has probably fallen over), it turns off in the same way. The switch-off when it is in a vertical position occurs later - after 8 minutes. This extra feature, in addition to making the iron safer, also saves energy. Some models have a residual heat indicator - like on glass ceramic hobs.
To be as helpful as possible, we would also like to give you some useful tips:
- The ironing board should be at waist height or iron while sitting.
- Rust stains from an iron can be removed by heating it slightly and applying beeswax. Sprinkle salt on a woolen rag and iron.
- Lint that sticks to woolen clothes when they are not ironed properly can be removed with vinegar and salt.
- Overdried clothes are difficult to iron, so spray them with hot water beforehand and roll them up tightly. The hot water evenly moistens the clothes.
- After washing, natural silk clothes should be wrapped in a dry towel without drying. They should be ironed while still damp. Light silk should be ironed from the front side, and dark silk should be ironed from the back side.
- Clothes made of artificial silk should be ironed with a medium-hot iron, always on the reverse side.
- Clothes made of woolen fabrics should be wrung out well after washing. Iron them through cheesecloth while they are still slightly damp, so that steam can rise.
- Knitwear and knitted items should be ironed dry on the reverse side.
- Clothes made of artificial silk should not be ironed often, even though they wrinkle easily. Ironing will ruin them.
- Cotton clothes should be moistened only where necessary - at the seams and hems.
- Woolen clothes should always be ironed from the inside out through a damp cloth.
The models offered by us have ceramic plates, which are the best solution for the ironing surface. There is no problem with scratching with them, since this material has quite high strength indicators. Cleaning is done only with a sponge. These irons are generally one of the easiest to maintain and operate. In general, they are quite powerful and respectively heavier, and a heavier iron guarantees a good duration of steam.
The models in our range not only have all the above-listed features as advantages, but also have additional extras, which you can view in their personal descriptions.
The prices make the investment justified, considering the high quality and proven reputation of brands such as BOSCH, PHILIPS, TEFAL, BRAUN, ELITE, SAPIR, etc.
