A lintel is a structural element (beam) that is placed over openings in masonry, allowing the construction of the wall to continue above the opening. In construction, a lintel is a beam above a door or window. When forming openings above windows and doors, ready-made lintels are used.
IN WHAT LENGTHS ARE THE CRICKETS AVAILABLE?
Ceramic lintels are factory-made and are available in lengths from 1 to 3 m in 25 cm increments and a width of 10 or 12 cm. These ready-made building elements save time for building walls.
BENEFITS OF CRICKETS
- They provide a huge convenience for the builder, designer and supervisor;
- They save technological time for making formwork, reinforcing skeleton, pouring concrete and, most importantly, waiting for the concrete to gain strength before demolding in order to continue with the masonry above the lintel if necessary;
- Sound and thermal bridges are avoided;
- The equal elastic characteristics of the individual elements of the system contribute to the very good behavior of the buildings during their operation;
- Hiding the concrete and pre-stressed reinforcement in the ceramic shell improves the adhesion of the wall with subsequent plasters in the risky areas above doors and windows;
- They guarantee the good geometry of the walls, achieved by the use of quality masonry units, combined with pre-prepared lintels;
- They eliminate the wrong practice in Bulgarian construction of making lintels with waste concrete, formwork boards and reinforcement left on the construction site.
HOW TO WORK WITH CERAMIC CURTAIN?
Lintels can be cut with a specialized power tool, but this should only be done if absolutely necessary. The minimum length that can be cut from a ceramic lintel is 10 cm.
When the thickness of the wall requires it, the lintels can be placed several next to each other. If necessary, with an air gap between them, it can be filled with insulating material or with the prescribed brand of mortar. When the wall is 25 or 38 cm thick, 2, 3 or 4 pieces of the corresponding type of lintels can be placed, respectively. During the construction process, with an opening of more than 125 cm, intermediate support for the lintels must be provided, with the support post having a cross section of at least 10/10 cm, if it is wooden, or a metal spigot should be used.
Depending on whether the walls are load-bearing or non-load-bearing, a pre-prepared lintel with a step length according to the structural requirements, but not less than 12 cm on each side, can be used.
ARE CRICKETS CUT?
As we have noted, in principle, lintels can be cut, but this is not desirable. They are prepared in the factory with pre-stressed reinforcement and any cutting will disrupt the characteristics of the product. In addition, the WIENERBERGER lintels, which we have included in our sales list, are available in lengths from 100 to 300 cm, multiples of 25 cm, which provides a large selection without the need for cutting. The lintels are modularly compatible with all POROTHERM ceramic blocks and significantly ease the work on the construction site both technologically and time-wise.
WHY CHOOSE WIENERBERGER CRICKETS?
The renowned Austrian concern WIENERBERGER offers factory-prepared lintels with pre-stressed reinforcement and ceramic cladding. The manufacturer develops systems for masonry structures in which the individual products are modularly compatible and lead to the creation of a building product with optimally good performance in terms of building statics, noise and heat insulation.
The equal elastic characteristics of the individual elements contribute to the very good behavior of the buildings. These system elements also include the POROTHERM brand lintels, prefabricated in factory conditions and consisting of a ceramic shell, pre-stressed reinforcement and a special concrete filling.
WHAT DO WE OFFER?
We offer high-quality POROTHERM lintels by WIENERBERGER with cross-section dimensions of 120 x 65 mm and 7 different lengths from 100 to 300 cm.
Our store also has YTONG aerated concrete lintels, which also vary in length.
Our prices are competitive with what is available on the market.
