The most common solutions for laying floor tiles are related to terracotta and granite tiles. Faience and decorative tiles, as well as friezes, are intended only for walls, as they are thinner and cannot withstand heavy loads.
Terracotta and granite tiles are suitable for both the bathroom and the kitchen. Keep in mind that floor tiles should be thick enough to withstand prolonged use. It is also important to choose tiles with a rough surface for the floor, as the rest pose a serious risk of slipping.
For the floor, you can also use mosaic or marble. They are characterized by good resistance to moisture and pressure. The mosaic can be made of glass, stone, ceramics, artificial materials. This depends mainly on the budget.
Terracotta and granite tiles are undoubtedly more preferred, but mosaic and marble also have their "fans". That's why we offer all types of floor tiles.

TERRACOTTA OR PORCELAIN TILES?

Terracotta and porcelain tiles are floor coverings that differ in their structure. The composition of terracotta is mainly made of different types of clay, which makes its structure more water-absorbing. The main raw material for the production of porcelain tiles (regardless of whether it is cheap or expensive) is feldspar, which is also a main raw material for the production of porcelain and glass. Therefore, porcelain tiles are also called porcelain tiles. Its advantages over terracotta are that it is suitable for installation on open areas. This is due to the almost zero water absorption of porcelain. If terracotta is installed outdoors, it is possible for water to penetrate the tile, which can form cracks after freezing. Porcelain tiles are also distinguished by greater strength, which makes it suitable for installation in garages and various types of industrial premises.
When it comes to laying tiles indoors, it doesn't matter whether it's porcelain stoneware or terracotta.
What do we recommend?
We recommend that you choose terracotta for the kitchen or living room, as well as the bathroom, but not for the hallway and for rooms that are heavily used. This is because the terracotta tiles themselves have a much lower wear resistance and can crack very quickly.
Often the quality is also evident in the prices, which is why granite tiles are more expensive. The main advantage of terracotta is that processing and cutting are easier and there is a large selection of colors. In cases where you want to have terracotta everywhere, it is good to look for floor tiles that are necessarily highly resistant to cold and load.
When choosing granite tiles, you must take into account some of its specifics. Qualities such as strength, durability, resistance to cold and any chemical treatment, as well as easy maintenance are of great importance. It is suitable for covering outdoor areas, places that are heavily used, such as corridors, for example, as we have already noted. You can easily orient yourself which places are heavily used - these are the places that are most often entered with shoes. There it is better to install a rougher or matte granite tiles, rather than glossy granite tiles, as it scratches faster. In terracotta, there is also matte terracotta and glossy terracotta.

PORCELAIN TILES ARE CONSIDERED THE MOST VERSATILE

In recent years, granite tiles have become a serious and permanent material for bathroom cladding. As we have already mentioned, it can be used for floor and wall coverings. Due to the fact that it is quite hard and dense as a material, there are no obstacles during the laying process. The main advantage of this material is precisely its density and hardness, which is where its exceptional anti-absorption properties come from - below 0.5%.
Granite tiles are billed as the most versatile by specialists. They are not affected by weather conditions and are therefore suitable for floor and wall coverings in warehouses, offices, shops and other public places, as they are resistant to wear and pressure.
There are matte, smooth, polished, embossed tiles - the issue of hygiene of these tiles is one of the main criteria when searching, and sometimes customers even ignore their preferences in view of the "possible" need for less washing. Remember well: there are no tiles that do not require maintenance. Fortunately, there are extremely effective tile cleaners that work wonders. Self-cleaning tiles, unfortunately, have not yet been invented.
The other dilemma for the tile surface is slipperiness when wet and how to avoid it. A cheap option for anti-slip tiles can be achieved by treating them with an anti-slip agent. With this type of treatment, you will insure yourself against possible accidents.

ABOUT THE BENEFITS OF JOINTS

When installing granite tiles as flooring, even calibrated or laser-cut, it is good to have a joint, not only to better preserve the color and consistency of the tile for longer, but also because the investment is for a long period of time. Installing a floor covering is not like installing latex on the walls, which we can repaint next year and this will not take us much energy and money. Granite tiles as flooring are subjected to a lot of stress, considering that we install it in a living room, kitchen or hallway, where the intensity of passage is high. Installing it for a long period of time, if there is a joint with the appropriate joint on the floor, even if a tile gets damaged over time, it can be removed and replaced with another, and if a joint is missing, this makes replacement difficult. In this case, breaking will be necessary.
