The doormat is the exterior accessory that will create the first impression of the visitor to your home. And the first impression is of fundamental importance for the overall perception of the home. Therefore, the choice of a doormat should in no case be underestimated, no matter how insignificant it may seem to some. Moreover, this accessory is mandatory for every household.
FUNCTIONS OF ENTRANCE DOOR RUGS
The doormat performs a practical and decorative function. It contributes to the cleanliness and good aesthetic appearance of the entrance to the home. Its main purpose is implied in the name – to serve to wipe shoes before entering the home. Therefore, it must be made of appropriate materials. In addition, it must have an anti-slip base.
The decorative function is contained in the design of the doormat. It is appropriate that it fits organically into the exterior, and not stand out as a patch. The patterns are usually in dark pastel tones, but there are also lighter and brighter solutions that are also in demand. The doormats can be plain or with some motifs and inscriptions on them. In their traditional form, they are rectangular in shape, but there are also interpretations in their shape.
Properly designing your entryway is essential for maintaining cleanliness and extending the life of your home or office flooring. The only way to keep dirt out is to create a “barrier” at the entrance. That’s why the need for a doormat has always existed.
From the past, we remember heavy metal scrapers and unsightly doormats. Today, the doormat is a modernized, elegant accessory that is not only useful for cleanliness, but also contributes to a stylish and finished look at the entrance to the home.
Aspects of cleaning:
- Rough cleaning – brushes and an eraser are needed to remove coarse dirt
- Fine cleaning – the process is carried out using carpet and scrapers
- Moisture removal – a regular carpet rug is enough to absorb moisture
TYPES OF DOOR RUGS
A quality doormat should provide a high cleaning function, stand firmly on the floor without allowing slipping and reduce cleaning activities. There are a variety of models and varieties that provide a cleaning effect in one of the listed areas or a combination of them.
- Carpeted doormats: this type of doormat provides effective absorption of wet steps. They are made of polyamide or recycled fibers, and can be with or without a rubber backing for a more stable attachment to the surface.
Patented collections combine different materials to brush away coarse dirt and absorb water, removing up to 90% of dirt introduced from outside at the entrance. To be most effective, they should be placed so that the stripes are perpendicular to the direction of movement. They are available in different sizes, according to the intended purpose and individual requirements.
- Vinyl doormats – ideal for the first few meters of the entrance area. They have an open permeable structure and are very suitable for heavy soiling areas. They can be made with a backing and can be placed on entrances with or without awnings.
- Rubber mats: their structure resembles a honeycomb with different height barriers and holes for reliable removal of coarse dirt. Variants with brush inserts are also produced, which help with additional scraping.
- Coconut mats - the well-known natural or artificial coconut mats are used to remove dust and small particles from the soles and prevent dirt from entering the interior. Artificial products are not inferior in quality to natural ones, made of 100% natural coconut fibers, woven into a PVC base. They can be placed in a cut bed or free-standing, equipped with a rubber frame. It is good to position coconut mats under a canopy.
- Aluminum doormats – entrance mats with aluminum profiles allow you to choose the material of the inserts (brush, rubber, textile), as well as the color of the textile insert. They provide comprehensive cleaning and can be installed outdoors without any problems.
- Brush type – the biggest “enemy” of dirt. The brushes are stuck into the soles and function on the principle of scraping. They can also be combined with a rubber insert. Outdoor installation is carried out without any problems.
- Rubber mats: they remove coarse particles to a large extent, but require a longer stroke. The effectiveness of the mat will be improved if combined with brush inserts.
- Textile mats: most often these are carpet inserts that cannot retain heavy dirt. High humidity reduces the retention capacity. Combinations with a rubber insert or aluminum strip are made to increase the effectiveness of the mat. They are not recommended for outdoor installation.
