Until recently, wallpapers were considered old-fashioned. Today, however, they are experiencing a renaissance, confidently returning to the decoration of the modern home. They are being revived by modern technologies, innovations in manufacturing and a new look. Modern wallpapers are made from new exclusive materials with all kinds of patterns and reliefs, as well as possibilities for combinations. It is difficult to list all the advantages of wallpapers - they bring unique coziness and warmth to the home, add style and class to a boring room, inspire moods, have the power to create a visual illusion of the size of the room and most importantly - they add individuality to every home. In addition, most modern wallpapers have special coatings that make them both durable and easy to clean and maintain.
Compared to interior paint products , wallpapers provide significantly more options for decorating the walls in the home. They bring the charm of the pattern, whether it is brighter or more neutral. Today, the market has a huge variety of different types of wallpapers in a variety of colors and styles that would satisfy even the most demanding consumers.
TYPES OF WALLPAPERS
According to the basis:
- Paper-based wallpapers - the base of the wallpaper is paper, which when removed remains on the wall as a good base for subsequent painting or placing new wallpapers;
- Fleece-based wallpapers – the fleece base contains non-woven fabric threads, allows the wall to breathe, is stronger and allows for repeated correction;
According to the coverage:
- Paper wallpapers – simplex and duplex
Paper wallpapers are the lowest class, but their advantage is the price, which ranks them among the most widely used. Modern technologies and the combination of ecological material allow for interesting visual effects and a rich color range. This type of wallpaper consists of one or several layers of paper, decorated with a variety of colors.
Wallpapers made of a single layer of paper are also called simplex. They are cheap and easy to stick and are a very economical solution for decorating your home. They are available in a very wide variety. It is important to note that although single-layer, these wallpapers do not look like those paper wallpapers from 20-30 years ago. They are now made of quality materials that are resistant to wear. Their durability is lower compared to other types, but they are still a very good and durable way to decorate. They are suitable for smooth and even walls, because if there are flaws, the wallpaper cannot hide them.
Wallpapers made of two-layer premium paper are also called duplex.
They are embossed and denser than single-layer ones. They hide the base well if the wall is not perfectly smooth.
- Acrylic wallpapers
Acrylic wallpapers are made of single-layer paper, and acrylic paints are used in their production. This type of wallpaper is distinguished by a more pronounced relief, which can cover slight irregularities on the wall. They are easily glued using standard glue for paper wallpaper. They are suitable for various interior solutions and living spaces. They are an excellent way to create and shape a richly saturated and stylish interior. They have a high degree of reliability and durability. The coating is resistant to mechanical damage and can easily be used in living spaces where there are pets. The thickness of the layer of acrylic wallpaper is about 1.5-2mm. Due to the presence of acrylic in it, the paper coating has good breathability. This defines this type of wallpaper as an effective interior detail for bedrooms, living rooms and children's rooms. It should not be placed in rooms that are characterized by excessive humidity. When cleaning it, it is not advisable to use abrasive elements, as they will damage the coating.
- Vinyl wallpapers
They are among the most popular types. Vinyl wallpapers are a product of modern technology, they are made of polymer material, but they are completely harmless to health. An indisputable advantage of this type is the great wealth of colors, patterns and reliefs. They can imitate mosaic, fabric, leather, paper, wood, ceramic tiles, marble, granite and other coatings. Vinyl wallpaper is distinguished by high quality, is easy to install, and its life is as long as 10 years. Its other advantages are that it is resistant to mechanical and chemical influences, is suitable for any type of room, does not absorb odors and smoke and usually has an antibacterial coating.
- Wallpapers with PVC coating
The coating is made of foam material and gives a three-dimensional effect to the walls. The base can be either paper or fleece. Their main advantage is that they are impact-resistant and can be cleaned. They can be of different density and structure, with beautiful embossed surfaces and various ornaments. These wallpapers have a number of valuable qualities, including their decorativeness, durability and ability to correct various wall defects.
- Others
This includes wallpapers with a velour coating, with a metallic effect, made of fiberglass, bamboo, with natural bird feathers, imitation wood veneer, made of natural materials - bamboo, reed, coconut, cork and the like.
HOW TO CHOOSE WALLPAPERS?
The main characteristics that we should be interested in when buying wallpaper for one or another room are durability and environmental friendliness. For example, vinyl or PVC wallpapers are ideal for the kitchen, living room, hallway and toilet. They are maximally waterproof (they can be washed with soap and water) and their colors slowly fade in the sun.
Different types of vinyl wallpapers have additional useful qualities. For example, structural ones are very dense and can fill small irregularities on the walls, and silk ones contain silk threads that create the illusion of fabric and bring palace splendor to even the smallest home. There are embossed vinyl wallpapers that imitate terracotta or stone coverings and are a good solution for the walls of the toilet, terrace or kitchen.
The main disadvantage of vinyl wallpapers (like any other artificial material) is that they cannot “breathe”. Therefore, good old paper wallpapers are more suitable for the bedroom and the children's room. In terms of environmental friendliness, they are unsurpassed – only paper and natural dyes. The choice is also large – from the most ordinary and cheap wall coverings to hand-painted or textured from two paper layers with added wood shavings between them for volume. However, these wallpapers also have their drawbacks. The most significant are their short life and easy contamination. They cannot be cleaned with detergents, but only with a dry, at most slightly moistened sponge. In addition, their gluing requires greater skill.
The longer we plan to use our new wallpaper, the higher quality and more expensive it should be. For example, cheap paper wallpapers can last 2-3 years, while vinyl wallpapers can last us no less than 10 years, and there are other types of wallpaper with an even longer lifespan, but you would hardly last that long without changing the interior.
Wallpapers provide excellent opportunities for interior improvisation. They can be used to decorate entire spaces as well as individual rooms.
Depending on the individual preferences and requirements of the specific project, a proposal is made for the most suitable types. The complex approach and professional knowledge of the products allow the wallpapers to be combined with carpets , runners , curtains , decorative pillows , lighting fixtures and various interior accessories .
It is very effective to place several colors or patterns of wallpaper on one wall. Pasted in close proximity, they break up the interior.
You can create an accent by covering just one wall in a room with wallpaper that matches the color scheme. This allows heavier or more saturated patterns to blend into the overall look without being overpowering.
When combining wallpaper with latex, the wallpaper is chosen first and then the paint. Latex has a very wide color range, which allows for easy matching to the wallpaper. The reverse is almost impossible.
Very effective are embossed wallpapers that create a three-dimensional optical effect - an interesting solution that cannot be missed. If they are combined correctly with other elements, they create a very memorable accent. Use this type of wallpaper sparingly. They create an interesting, but more intrusive look. Used in an inappropriate combination, they can create a feeling of discomfort.
No matter which look you choose, improvise and give your home a modern feel!
PHOTO WALLPAPERS ARE AN EXCELLENT CHOICE FOR DECOR
Photo wallpapers are intended to give a depth effect to the rooms, thus creating the illusion of a larger room. They have beautiful and contrasting colors. Photo wallpapers can transform any room beyond recognition and for this reason they are preferred when the aim is to diversify the interior or its complete renovation.
Modern techniques and technologies have been used to produce the photo wallpaper. The images are printed using offset printing with a large-format printer on special wallpaper paper, which has a density of 115g/sq.m and a matte finish. Thanks to the matte finish and the special wallpaper paper, the image will remain realistic, even if the photo wallpaper is directly illuminated by the sun's rays.
Size matters.
The approach to creating the perfect photo wallpaper decor is to choose the right size. We offer door photo wallpapers in sizes 91 x 211cm and wall photo wallpapers in sizes 254 x 184cm and 368 x 254cm .
Photo wallpapers can be placed partially on the wall, without covering the entire space. In this case, you need to consider the color, texture and correct positioning of the photo wallpaper.
Photo wallpapers can also be placed on an entire wall to set the main tone in the room. With photo wallpaper on the entire wall, you will add greater visual impact by placing a main accent in the interior of the room.
Colors and imagery are of great importance when deciding which wallpaper to choose. You can achieve a relaxing atmosphere or stimulate your senses.
What wallpaper should we choose?
If you have decided to decorate a small room, choose a lighter color with a simple design that does not limit the space. Photo wallpapers do not necessarily have to have too complex details. For example: choose a light theme for a child's room - colorful outlines of mountains with a few balloons or a nice background.
For a larger room, you can afford dark images that will catch the eye when you walk in. For example: a large cityscape for the living room to fill your room with an elegant atmosphere.
The theme of your wallpaper should reflect your personality. It's important to choose an image that brings you visual pleasure every day. Aim for a theme that reflects who you are or what you love.
Match the photo wallpaper to the room
- Bedroom: The space above the bed can be the main focal point. Choose a smaller size photo wallpaper to place above the bed or even if it covers the entire wall, let the focus of the photo not be lost behind the headboard of the bed or a wardrobe or cupboard.
- Dining Room: Your main wall is where your eyes land upon entering the room. Covering an entire blank wall that matches the style of the furniture will add a focal point to the room where the family spends the most time.
- Living room: Depending on the setting or interior of your living room, as well as whether there is enough light in it, you can choose the appropriate colors and contrast between them, and as for the details and specific images, this is a matter of personal choice. When choosing photo wallpapers for the living room, keep in mind that the paintings look one way when viewed and in a different way when they relate to the specific space. Accordingly, they can both expand and narrow the space. If you have a smaller living room, for example, where less light enters, you can choose the type of photo wallpapers for the living room that have perspective and give depth. These can be landscapes in which the gaze sinks into the sea to the sunset lights and winds along a small path starting from the room itself or hills that line up one behind the other, giving space to the view, or even some of the cityscapes that bring mood, immersing you in the respective place that fascinates you.
- Kitchen: Without much effort and without covering an entire wall, you can add a special finish to your kitchen. You can choose interesting photos of food, drinks or remarkable landscapes.
HOW TO APPLY WALLPAPER?
Wallpapering is easier than you think if you take a few tips into account.
1. Calculate how many rolls of wallpaper you will need. To be on the safe side, plan a little extra so you can fix any minor mistakes.
2. The surface for the wallpaper must be dry, clean and flat. The work you will invest in peeling off the old wallpaper and leveling the unevenness with a putty will only improve the final result.
3. Once the base is ready, you need to cut out the wallpaper.
Important: Add about 10 cm to the required length of the strip. You will save time if you use the first strip as a template for all subsequent strips.
4. Mix the adhesive according to the instructions on the packaging and let it soak. Place the wallpaper strips with the packaging side up on the table. Then spread the adhesive generously and evenly from the middle to both ends and fold the wallpaper strips. Prepare as many strips as you can apply in the next 15 minutes, otherwise the adhesive will dry out too much.
5. Wallpapering begins with marking a vertical line - this prevents the wallpaper strip from distorting when it is placed. A basic rule when gluing wallpaper is that the heavier the wallpaper, the thicker the glue should be. Press the wallpaper carefully and smooth it with a brush from the center outwards. Next, the next strips are joined end-to-end. The air remaining under the wallpaper is removed using a soft cloth or wallpaper putty, moving from the center outwards. If the edges are not adhering well, they should be pressed with an edge roller.
