Along with the floor and walls, the ceiling is part of the building foundation in any home, which in turn is one of the three main elements of the interior. Therefore, the design of the ceiling is particularly important for the overall vision of the home. It must correspond harmoniously with the walls, as well as with the objective elements of the interior such as furniture, lighting, decorations, etc.
DECORATIVE CEILING PANEL
High-quality ceiling cladding gives the room additional coziness and elegance. Among the many ceiling covering solutions, the most convenient and relatively inexpensive is the use of decorative panels. These are decorative ceiling tiles and rosettes with a square, rectangular and round shape made of extruded polystyrene foam, better known to the mass consumer as Styrofoam. Produced by vacuum pressing, they can be both white and in other colors. The surface of the ceiling panels most often has a relief structure, resembling a sculptural bas-relief or wood carving.
Styrofoam can be attached to surfaces made of drywall, concrete, aerated concrete, wood panels and other building boards.
Decorative extruded ceiling panels are recommended for living spaces, offices, etc. They can also be used in the kitchen and bathroom, but only those that are laminated with a protective film and can be washed using a damp sponge, soap, and warm water.
Ceiling panels have two main functions: thermal insulation and decorative.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF STYROFOAM CEILING BOARDS?
Styrofoam ceiling panels have the advantage of hiding irregularities and other defects on the ceiling, allowing for cladding in any style without any particular problem. In addition, they have good noise and heat insulation properties. They ensure the color uniformity of the surface. Different types of relief are able to give the room a unique style. Some types of panels allow you to create a continuous pattern across the entire ceiling, while others with geometric shapes on their surface create an additional perspective effect in the room.
Stick-on ceilings are a traditional option for covering homes. If you are tired of ordinary latex painting, and a more complex option would worry you financially, then polystyrene panels are your right choice. You just need to carefully consider whether the panels you like are suitable for the room you want to beautify with them.
HOW ARE CEILING PLATES INSTALLED?
The ceiling surface must be prepared in advance. The areas where the masonry is crumbling are cleaned, old wallpaper and peeling paint are removed, the lime paint is washed and wiped off, and the cracks and irregularities are puttyed. The base must be clean, dry and degreased, sound and, if possible, smooth. Before gluing, the gypsum boards and putty must be sanded. Surfaces made of materials that are prone to swelling from moisture, such as plywood or chipboard, must be primed in advance. For gluing ceilings, special adhesives designed for such coatings are usually used, but polyvinyl or universal adhesives can also be used, as they are relatively low-cost. However, special adhesives have their advantages: if necessary, the boards can be easily peeled off without being damaged and there is no need to thoroughly prepare the surface - it is enough just to scrape off the dust. The adhesive has the ability to penetrate the layer applied before the cladding, creating and strengthening the bonded surfaces.
The installation of the ceiling panels is carried out in the following way: cords are stretched along the diagonals between the opposite corners of the ceiling. The center is marked at the point where they intersect. Further, two straight lines are drawn crosswise from wall to wall through the marked center, dividing the room into four parts. A thin layer of glue is applied to the reverse side of the ceiling panel. The first panel is glued to the marked center of the ceiling. The following panels are glued in parallel rows along straight lines drawn from wall to wall. A decorative profile is glued to the corner between the ceiling and the wall. Any glue residue that gets on the surface during gluing is immediately washed off with a wet sponge.
