One of the main elements in any interior is the carpet. Choosing one is as easy as it is difficult - again for the same reason - because the range of materials and prices is huge.
Perhaps many believe that carpet fashion has fallen far behind. But no - carpets have a place in the world of interior fashion and will not be giving up their positions anytime soon.
Carpets are a cozy presence in the interior of every home. There are many criteria by which we must choose to match the interior, our tastes and financial capabilities.
WHY SHOULD WE PREFER CARPET?
Why should we prefer carpet over other possible floor coverings? Here are a few arguments in this regard:
- Laminate, terracotta tiles, granite or marble will never give a room the same coziness as carpet.
- You don't have to wash or polish the carpet daily. In addition, the dust that accumulates on it is less noticeable and very easy to brush off.
- Carpet is a great sound insulator.
- A thick carpet perfectly protects your feet from the cold, and also normalizes the humidity in the room.
- A woolen rug is good for your feet, as it massages your feet (especially if you have the habit of walking barefoot), and this not only improves the overall tone of the body, but also helps with high blood pressure, leg and spine pain.
TIPS FOR CHOOSING A CARPET
What should you pay attention to when choosing a carpet to give the room the desired stylish look? The size, the material, the color? And what should you know about carpets?
First and foremost, you need to decide what function the carpet will perform. Will it act as a noise and cold insulator, or will you simply want to bring a big splash of color into the interior, or will its main purpose be to give your feet a feeling of softness and warmth?
- According to room type
For the living room, the carpet should be made of wool or acrylic and in harmony with the upholstery of the upholstered furniture. It is good to have at least 20-30 cm of distance from the edge of the carpet to the walls. In a large living room, we can place a large carpet or two identical ones in different corners. A round or oval-shaped carpet can soften the severity of furniture with a regular geometric shape.
For the dining room, rugs with uncut threads (loops) are suitable, because this is the busiest area in the home, and they are distinguished by their exceptional strength. When choosing its size, it should allow for coverage of an area 120 cm beyond the dimensions of the dining table. Otherwise, you will make it difficult to move the chairs around the table.
To give maximum comfort to the bedroom, it is best to choose a large rug that covers the entire floor. For this room, it is best to choose a rug in soft, pastel tones, while for the nursery or living room, you can choose brighter and more saturated colors.
If you want to optically increase the space in the room, you should focus on light colors or carpets with diagonal patterns.
If the room is very large, several rugs will help you zone it. For example, to distinguish a resting area and a dining area.
- According to the material of manufacture
For the living room and children's room, choose a short-pile carpet - this type of flooring is more resistant to wear and tear, and marks from furniture are more difficult to notice.
For the bedroom, you can choose soft woolen rugs with long piles that cover the entire (or almost the entire) room. This way you will create coziness and muffle various noises, such as the slapping of bare feet on the floor.
Ornamental carpets made of artificial fibers, preferably with a rubber backing, are suitable for the hallway, as they are more durable than others. In addition, the various prints and geometric shapes are very good at hiding the stains that are typical of entrance rooms.
- According to the size of the room
Keep in mind that an overly large rug (over 2.5 m) attracts maximum attention. For this reason, for bright, colorful interiors that abound with original furniture and accessories, plain-colored rugs or those with non-contrasting ornaments are suitable.
A medium-sized rug (up to 2 m) perfectly highlights the necessary areas, for example, a relaxation area in the living room.
Very small rugs are wonderful accessories that are themselves colorful accents in the interior, which is why they can even be in bright, saturated colors. You can place them around the bed, in front of the fireplace, next to the sofa or in front of the armchairs... These small rugs (but definitely the same type!) can be even more than three depending on the size and areas of the room.
Color is extremely important, especially if the rug is large. Colors can make a room feel warmer or cooler.
For well-lit rooms with south-facing windows, cool-toned flooring is more suitable. For dark rooms, it's best to choose a carpet in bright, warm shades.
Carpets that match the tone of the floor in the room look very stylish, but if the floor is quite dark, it is better to choose a contrasting color or a light carpet with ornaments in the same shades.
If you want to emphasize the original furniture, choose a solid-colored carpet, because printed flooring draws attention to itself and "overshadows" everything else in the interior.
The color of the carpet can be one shade darker or lighter than the colors in the room's interior.
Be bold in your color combinations when choosing carpets for your home. Make your home a place where you will feel cozy, calm and in a great mood.
