Description
Basil leaves are used fresh or dried as a spice to flavor meat, cheeses, sauces, soups, salads, etc. In addition to being an indispensable spice in cooking, basil is also a medicinal herb. It has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic properties.
Basil is cultivated in two ways - by direct sowing and by seedlings. It is best to grow it through seedlings in order to develop earlier. Basil is an annual plant that requires plenty of heat and light. The seeds germinate in 14-18 days in light at a temperature of 12-15°C, with the optimum being 20-22°C.
Fresh leaves are harvested throughout the year (can also be sown in a pot).
Red basil seeds are sown in February to March to prepare seedlings. Use pots and containers for seedlings or suitable pots. Ready seedlings are planted in their permanent place in the period April - May. When growing basil at home, the seeds can be sown all year round. Sowing depth - about 1 cm.
Seedlings are usually ready for planting 35-50 days after germination. This usually happens after May 10-15 or when the danger of frost has passed, they are planted in a permanent place.
