Often, when tinkering, it may be necessary to change a certain configuration of plastic elements in order to obtain the exact fit. This can happen, for example, when installing a water supply system with PVC pipes. Then the hot air gun comes to the rescue. It is very useful, and in this case, an indispensable tool.
WHAT IS A HOT AIR GUN USED FOR?
The hot air gun is used to evenly heat plastic objects that need to be deformed in a specific way. A typical application is the bending of PVC pipes for ducts, as well as their joining by pushing one into the other. In this case, the end of one pipe needs to be slightly and evenly expanded. The bad practice of heating pipes with a lit newspaper leads to burning the plastic, deforming or breaking the material.
Another very wide field of application of the hot air gun is the removal of old varnish coatings. For this purpose, the painted surface is heated evenly and carefully, during which the paint layer softens and here and there bubbles up. Then the paint can be scraped off very easily and without damaging the base with a spatula or scraper. This is the most common method for removing paint from wooden or metal objects, walls painted with white paint, etc. However, it is important to be careful that the paint only softens, and not burns out, because the layer becomes very hard and its cleaning becomes problematic. Therefore, the ability to precisely regulate the temperature of the air coming out of the gun is very useful. In addition to the speed and good cleaning of the base, a significant advantage of the heating method is that it does not produce dust - something that cannot be avoided when sanding with special sandpaper.
Due to the high temperature of the air coming out of the gun, it can also be used very successfully to imitate the burning of cladding boards, in which the coniferous material acquires a beautiful light to dark brown color.
Other common uses for heat guns:
- Accelerate the drying process of fresh varnish coatings or putties;
- Thawing frozen pipes, especially when they are made of plastic pipes, therefore the use of a propane-butane or other open flame burner is unacceptable. The same applies to frozen mixer taps, water taps and other parts of the plumbing system that are sensitive to high heat;
- Soldering of various plastic parts;
- Insulating the ends of bare cables with heat shrink tubing;
- Insulation of joints when connecting cables against moisture penetration;
- Drying various surfaces before gluing them together, before applying sealing silicone paste in the joints between floor tiles on outdoor terraces, etc.;
- Cutting Styrofoam and other foam plastics;
- For applying and removing wax on skis
HOT AIR GUNS CAN BE COMBINED WITH OTHER TOOLS AND ADDITIONAL ATTACHMENTS
The functionality of hot air guns and their areas of application are significantly expanded by combining them with auxiliary tools. For example, a special scraper with different shaped blades is used to scrape off the softened layer of paint.
There is a wide range of nozzles that shape the air jet. For removing varnish coatings, nozzles with a narrow and wide opening (50 and 75mm) are used.
For bending PVC pipes, special nozzles are used, which ensure simultaneous and uniform heating of the pipe along its diameter around the bend point. There are nozzles specifically designed for cutting Styrofoam and other foam insulation boards.
For welding repairs of boats and soft plastic products, a spot heating nozzle with a diameter of the outlet air hole of 9 mm is used. For welding parts made of different types of plastic, special “electrodes” of the same material are used – soft and hard polyethylene, PVC, polypropylene, which are fed and melted at the welding site.
WHAT DO WE OFFER?
The models offered by us satisfy the demand of both customers who are looking for a low price and those who value quality above all else. We have hot air guns at extremely affordable prices for smaller-scale activities in the home and at the cottage, which are at a good technological level.
More demanding craftsmen can find a gun with a tip ejection function for easy replacement and removal, as well as an LCD display for indicating the actual and desired temperature and air flow, which guarantees constant heat control and stepless temperature regulation up to 650 degrees. You can get a complete idea of the hot air guns that we offer by looking at their technical data sheets.
The products in our nomenclature from this group are of the brands BOSCH, RAIDER, SKIL, BAUKRAFT, SPARKY, etc.
